Though at first the narrator is "horrified" that her children "react" to her messages instead of replying, ("the total disintegration of language, blah, blah, blah"), she later asks "How much easier would things be if we could respond to real life that way? (163)."
Do you agree that having access to "thumbs up"and "thumbs down" and other emoticons available in "real life" would make things easier? Or do you think we might rely on them too much and that would lead to the distengration of language skills?
I agree that simply being able to “thumbs up” a statement in face to face conversations would make life much easier by allowing one to get one’s point across without having to partake in a conversation that might challenge them emotionally. However, I would also argue that relying on these buttons too much can be detrimental because it does make it easy for one to not confront one’s own emotions. On top of this, the overuse of these buttons can limit meaningful conversation in which both parties can grow.
