118. Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda

"In a Park" (c. 1874 ) by Berthe Morisot

What keeps the narrator from wanting to imagine a fantasy version of her life where she never made eye contact with Sam at the bar where they met (118)?

Is there a valuable life lesson in her reflections on why she don't like to play that game?

Or is it an example of trying to make peace with the negative (bitterness about an unhappy marriage) by associating it with some positive repercussions?
