| "Jack and Jill" (2011) |
Consider the following questions. You don't need to record your answers.
1: Today Jack and Jill each have a wealth of 5 million. Are they equally happy?
2. Yesterday Jack had 1 million and Jill had 9 million. Today they each have 5 million. Is Jack happy? Is Jill happy?
3. Yesterday Jack had 1 million. Today Jack has 5 million. Is Jack happy?
4. Yesterday both Jack and Jill had 1 million. Today Jack has 5 million, but Jill has 9 million. Is Jack happy? Is Jill?
What do these questions and your answers to them suggest about the nature of happiness and justice? In the context of these questions, what is the difference between envy and fairness?

The questions above make me ponder what makes people happy. I do not believe wealth guarantees a person’s happiness, and I do not think justice does it. To truly be happy, people need to find peace within themselves and do something that brings them fulfillment. Sure, justice is a big part of one’s fulfillment, but I could say the same for money. I would describe envy as a strong desire for other people’s things when you do not need or deserve them, whereas fairness is when items are given to or made available for those who need it to function like the rest of society.

DeleteRelating this situation to Justice, Was anyone wronged? Bad things happen to good people and good things happen and good things happen to those who we count as less than desirable--"life isn't fair" -Mom (Probably). We can try to influence the odds of situations to favorable to us but we may never count ourselves out of the statistic of things. If in fact Jill stole from Jack or vice versa Then we may have place for justice to be dealt. Otherwise we, Rightfully so could be saddened by our loss,But it is crucial that in our saddened we do not assign blame where it is undeserved. It is not Jacks good fortune that caused my ill fortune. Because of this I should celebrate with him and if he finds the desire, he may mourn with me.
