I learned that she feels as though she is out of options. "If I felt it was possible for me to stay, I would. But I don't." Here her note suggests that it's not so much about not wanting to live, but rather that it just isn't a viable option anymore. -Byron
I found that she was lost. She couldn’t see any paths forward, so she thought the only way to move forward was to stop everything entirely. I also found that she seemed to have a pessimistic attitude toward a lot of things. It seemed like it was always a “glass half empty” situation to her. -Elliot Riden
I learned that Nora feels entirely hopeless about how she has lived her life. She is also consumed by her own regrets. I get the impression that all of Nora's negative feelings have snowballed into an overall feeling of self-loathing.
After reading Nora’s suicide note I learned that Nora feels as though she has lost everything and everyone. She feels like she could never find her niche and continue with it. “ I had all the chances to make something of my life, and I blew every one of them.” Nora’s regrets had led her to feel that she was incapable of providing anything of value to the world. - Zachary Idlett
Nora feels useless, isolated, and feels like she has no worth in the world. to her it's perfectly logical that due to it "not being possible for her to stay" and that she "only makes life worse for people" than her being out of the picture permanently is the only action left for her to improve other people's lives. to her she; failed to be a friend, failed to be a lover, to be a teacher, and failed to even be a cat owner. she thought that the whole world left her because she was just a problem it wanted to get rid of. this is not the case, ever
From reading Nora's suicide note, we can tell that she feels as if she has no worth, and can do no good in this world. She feels as if she messes everything up and has no want to pursue any further down this road. "I have nothing to give" was very sad to read because Nora really felt like she was just a nuisance and had no importance. You never know what goes on inside someone's head.
Nora feels as though she doesn't belong anymore. She has ran out of options and people to fall towards to catch her as shes falling off. She starts the note off by saying, "Dear whoever,..." which denotes her uncertainty on who might find her in this state. Nora only sees the bad that has happened in all of her actions instead of pointing out the good that has risen from them. This causes her to feel as though everyone else has also suffered tremendously from her failures. She finishes the note by saying, "Be kind to each other.", which shows she still wants others too succeed in places she might think she failed.
The main reason she wants to die is she feels like she has missed out on every chance of happiness that she has ever had. She has a lot of regrets, feeling like she has let herself and other people down. After her cat dies and she forgets about Leo's piano lessons, she figures that only makes life worse for others. - Matt Pittman
I think from looking back at the very opening scene of Nora playing chess that it sets up the idea that she views life like a game of chess. She seems blinded by all the wrong moves she has made in life that she just doesn’t want to play anymore. I think she sees herself in a checkmate position and the best thing she can do in her mind is to stop fighting it and accept defeat. Almost like when you lose a game you feel you have no chance of winning so you can give yourself the opportunity to start another one over. The thing is I think she has always viewed life as a strategic game instead of a once in a lifetime adventure that is going to have twists, turns, ups, and downs.
Her note reminds me of a line from a song by Nine Inch Nails. "I wish this could have been any other way, but I just don't know, I don't know what else I can do." It encapsulates the ultimate helplessness. In that moment she felt there was no way to move in any meaningful direction with her life. She felt as though she was a burden to all those around her and surrounded herself with the memories of every mistake she had made and all the hurt she feels she had caused. She tried to reach out and no one was there in her moment of crisis, so she went ahead with her plan.
