"Required Reading" (1900) by Carl Larsson
Lerner and Schlechter differentiate between two kinds of passion: Harmonious Passion (HP) and Obsessive Passion (OP). They define OP as a passion you pursue “not because you find the pursuit engaging or rewarding for its own sake, but rather for the resulting promise of money, status, fame, applause, social standing or approval from parents or others you long to please” (261). If you have ever had an “Obsessive Passion,” as Lerner and Schlechter define it (see p. 262), describe it here. What was it? How did you get started with it? Do you still have it? How did you detach yourself from it?
