The red dirt of Oklahoma has a much deeper meaning to many tribes rather than the scientific explanation of a large iron oxide content. When I first started reading the book I thought that maybe they believed that tribes thought the dirt was red because of the lives that were lost on Oklahoman soil but as I researched I found that when the tribes got moved to Oklahoma the first thing they did was connect to the ground hinting at the name "Red Man's Land". At the end of the book we hear from May Fo Webb who said that "This land is saturated with blood." she then recited the Bible by saying, "The blood cries out from the ground". I think there is more history in folk stories about the dirt in Oklahoma and why it is red than we have ever thought.
