Grann reports that journalists depicted the Osage as improvident spendthrifts even though white oil barons were equally capable of extravagant expenditures.
Do today's mainstream journalists avoid racial stereotypes, by and large, or are racial stereotypes something we still have to contend with as a society?
Can you provide any specific examples to support your claim?

In today's society, many mainstream journalists, especially news journalists, contend with racial stereotypes and pass that information to the rest of society. A good example of racial stereotypes recently was the movement of "Black lives matter." This movement started as a response to caucasian police officer fatally shooting an African American teen. Many people around the country saw this as a racial issue that the caucasian officer was specifically targeting this teen because of his racial background. This incident also allowed for the racial stereotype that caucasians were discriminating against African Americans because of their race. These are a couple of racial stereotypes that we still contend with as a society today, and there will most likely still be racial stereotypes as long as people still divide themselves from others based on race.
